SWAT Tactics

In addition to active reflexes, SWAT 3 emphasizes the use of actual SWAT tactics.

Players will have a range of tactical movements and formations from which to choose, including:

Basic Tactical Movements
There are many basic tactics that govern the way SWAT elements advance around corners, handle their weapons, and avoid detection and exposure.

Example: Slicing the Pie
Slicing the Pie Slicing the Pie on doors and corners is a life-saving tactic. By adjusting your position at an oblique angle, visibility is increased with minimum amount of body exposure.

Stealth Tactics
Stealth tactics are characterized by slow, quiet, methodical search techniques. As the element leader coordinates and supervises team movement, the assaulters actively engage in search or cover. An assualter's primary aid during a stealth search is the Opti-Wand, a fiber optic camera connected to the officer's HUD. Information gathered via the Opti-Wand is communicated from the assaulter to the element leader and the team. The element leader then determines and coordinates the team's next move.

Example: Two Man Open Door Entry
2 Man Open Door Entry When confronted with an open door to a room not yet cleared, the first officer stops short of the doorway and assume a ready position. The second officers stops behind the first and readies himself. Once both men are in position and ready, the first man does a wide-angle search on the door, coupled with a lean. Once the probability of an immediate threat is dismissed the first man steps in and across the doorway followed by the second officer who button hooks into and across the doorway.

Dynamic Tactics
Dynamic tactics are characterized by fast entries, explosive breaches and the use of diversionary devices. Dynamic tactics require aggressiveness, momentum, control, discipline, team work, and fast, accurate shooting.

Example: POE
Point of Entry POE, or point of entry, is the point at which a dynamic breach is made. If the entry point requires an explosive breach the first officer, followed by the remainder of the team, enters the area immediately after detonation. When an entry is breached mechanically, as with a tool kit or shotgun, it's the first officer in the stack that executes the breach. The breach is immediately followed with the deployment of a NFD by the second officer in the stack. Once the NFD is detonated the first officer leads the team into the room.
