Composer

Chance Thomas joined Sierra in the fall of 1996. His primary responsibility has been creating the music score for Quest For Glory V: Dragon Fire, but he has also contributed music to SWAT 2 and The Realm. Chance's previous experience with a broad diversity of clients in the film, advertising, and entertainment industries (refer to Background below) has allowed him to gain competency in several musical genres, as evidenced by his contributions to these three very different Sierra offerings.

Even within Quest For Glory V a diversity of musical styles are represented. For key events that unfold the plot, and for important dramatic moments within the game, Chance employs a classic orchestral approach. To reflect the culture of Silmaria, he creates ethnic folk music that merges Near Eastern and Mediterranean influences with contemporary rhythms. Other pieces, whose function is purely atmospheric, fall roughly within the boundaries of New Age ambient music. We believe that the music in Quest For Glory V approaches the quality of today's feature film soundtracks.

Awards
Emmy, Telly, Addy... these are familiar names to those who make their living in media production. Over the past couple of years, Sierra composer Chance Thomas has become personally acquainted with all three. His musical scoring has been honored with an Emmy award, three Telly awards, and two Addy awards.

"The statues and certificates are great for decorating the studio, but it's the tip of the hat from other industry pros that really makes me feel good," says Thomas. The most recent tip of the hat arrived just weeks ago, when Chance learned that he had taken "Best Of Show" honors in music scoring from the national Aurora Awards competition.

Background
Prior to joining Sierra's development team, Chance owned and operated a successful music production company in Salt Lake City. His work there involved creating music for clients in the film, advertising, and entertainment industries. Particularly in the field of television advertising, Chance's music has had high profile exposure promoting familiar names such as McDonald's, Nissan, the Salvation Army, and many others.

Chance has also had extensive experience as an entertainer, performing on 127 cruises throughout the Caribbean, as well as entertaining at two popular Rocky Mountain ski resorts. Additionally, Chance was honored as the official pianist for the Governor of the State of Utah during the 1980's. He has entertained for such well known personalities as Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Sidney Poitier, Bruce Willis, the casts of Star Trek and Sting, Sarah Vaughn, and Dear Abby.

Chance is a Cum Laude graduate of Brigham Young University's music recording program. His studies included not only training in music theory, composition, and other traditional courses, but also in studio acoustics, recording and mixing techniques, and other applications relevant to contemporary music production.
