Impressions Games Posts Free Demo Version of Pharaoh to the 'Net
CAMBRIDGE, MA (October 1, 1999) - Impressions Games and Sierra Studios
today announced the release of a free demonstration version of Pharaoh, a
city-building game set in ancient Egypt, that lets players manage cities
and construct giant monuments. The game will be available on PC this November.
The demo eases players into the world of ancient Egypt, teaching them to hunt,
farm between floods of the river Nile, build homes, and distribute food to their
population. The final demo mission challenges players to construct a mastaba, a
brick pyramid, while mining for gold and balancing a burgeoning city. Fans
should go to the newly revamped official Pharaoh Web site at http://www.pharaoh1.com
for the latest game info and a direct download link. For the first two days the 50Mb
demo will be hosted exclusively on CNET's Download.com and Gamecenter.com Web sites.
After the weekend, the demo will be available broadly throughout the Internet.
"With the success of Caesar 3, Impressions has continued to focus on
developing the best historical city building games, and we've really accomplished
something unique with Pharaoh. In addition to building a city and managing resources,
the player will be able to create a dynasty over several generations, leading to the
construction of some tremendous monuments," said Peter Haffenreffer, General Manager
of Impressions Games. "With the final product shipping in just 30 days, this demo was
a critical milestone for the team and we're very pleased with it."
Pharaoh, a strategy game set in ancient Egypt during the period when the great pyramids
were built, allows players to lay out majestic Egyptian cities and help them thrive.
Players will experience the challenges and thrills of building pyramids of such vast
proportions that they are still listed first among the great wonders of the world.
They will discover why the Nile was so crucial to all aspects of life by watching the
effects of the seasonal flooding on the daily routines of the local inhabitants.
Players will feel as if they have been transported back in time to ancient Egypt as
they grow Egyptian villages into thriving metropolises and watch the inhabitants and
economy of this exotic land come to life.
