EARLY HOMEWORLD ONLINE PLAYERS TO WIN AWESOME GAMING PRIZES
WON.net contest encourages early online play with grand prize of AMD Athlon based-gaming supercomputer from PC Outfitters
Bellevue, WA (September 29, 1999) - WON.net - in conjunction with Sierra
Studios, Relic and PC Connection - today announced a contest where
milestone online players (1,000th; 5,000th; 10,000th; 25,000th; 50,000th; or
100,000th) win prizes just for playing Homeworld online. WON.net,
developer of the online multiplayer technologies built into Homeworld, will
use its CD key authentication technology to locate and log winners for
prizes including a grand-prize AMD Athlon based gaming supercomputer
from PC Outfitters.
"The goal for the contest is to encourage the early players to go online
right away as well as get the people who haven't tried playing online yet to give
it a go," said Scott Fasser, WON.net product manager. "We think that when
they see how easy it is to get online and play, they'll be back for more."
Players are automatically entered into the contest when then they log on
and play Homeworld online. WON.net will track log-ons using WON.net's
CD key authentication technology. The 1,000th; 5,000th; 10,000th; 25,000th;
50,000th; or 100,000th unique CD key to play on WON.net will win prizes.
Prizes include a Homeworld bumper sticker, Homeworld shirt, copy of the
game autographed by Relic's Alex Garden and a high-end 3D card. Each
winner will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize of a new AMD
Athlon based-gaming supercomputer from PC Outfitters.
The contest begins immediately and ends when the 100,000th unique
CD-key has logged on to WON.net. Winners will be announced on
WON.net as each milestone is reached. Prizes will be
distributed after users verify themselves with a username and password
that matches WON.net's CD key records. Instructions on how to claim a
prize, along with winners' names, will be listed on the site. For more

WON.net and Homeworld
Homeworld is one of the first products to extensively use WON.net's new
generation of Internet game technologies. Multiplayer technologies found
in Homeworld cover security, communication between players, seamless
online gameplay and easy updating. WON.net's authentication technology
uses a combination of username/password and CD key to verify players
and prevent piracy. Directory services provide lists of servers and
supports real-time replication, which is the key to full redundancy of all
WON.net services. Chat servers supporting multi-language support and
dirty-word filtering make communicating with other players easy. WON.net
technologies will detect out-of-date game copies, and then deliver and
apply updated code where necessary. Playing from behind a firewall is
now simplified with automatic firewall detection to ease confusion of
obscure network configuration screens and traditional complications with
single modem LANs. Also, automatic routing of game packets provides
seamless gameplay from behind a firewall.
