SIERRA STUDIOS AND RELIC ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE HOMEWORLD IS GOLD!
SHIP DATE LOCKED IN FOR WORLD-WIDE LAUNCH
Bellevue, WA (September 16, 1999) - Sierra Studios and Relic Entertainment proudly announced today that their long-awaited, award-winning PC game, Homeworld has gone gold and will be shipping to retail locations around the world on September 28th. Having
achieved E3.Net's Game Critics' Award for "Best Strategy Game" two years in a row and being hailed as "a serious contender for Game of the Year" in recent features on its upcoming release, Homeworld is in an
extraordinary position to surpass projected sales expectations for Sierra Studios.
Homeworld has been described recently as the "cream of the current crop" in the next-generation of real-time strategy games. It allows players to command a massive starfleet on an epic journey to the heart of the galaxy. Homeworld is a revolutionary step in gameplay and technology, offering 16 missions and two races in cinematic quality 3D environments, along with eight-person online multiplayer gaming with technologies provided by WON.net. Homeworld is the debut release from Vancouver, B.C.-based Relic Entertainment. More information about the game can be found at the following URL: www.homeworld.net.
Sierra Studios is also featuring the song "Homeworld" on the soundtrack of the game, written and performed by legendary progressive rock band, YES. The song is the leadoff track from YES' forthcoming album, The Ladder, to be released September 28th. It was inspired by the game's back-story of a colony's desire to return to their home world. The game is the first place the song will be heard, in addition to its release on The Ladder.
"A long time ago a small group of us set out with an uncompromising vision to create the most immersive space combat/RTS experience ever," said Alex Garden, CEO of Relic Entertainment. "Almost exactly 2 1/2 years later, we have Homeworld, which has not only met, but vastly exceeded everything we ever imagined. It's been an incredible journey, and a very satisfying one. It's exciting to think we can now share it with the rest of the world!"
"After all the awards and media attention we've received, we are very excited to get Homeworld into the channel and have it live up to the expectations of a powerhouse RTS game," said Jim Veevaert, director of marketing for Sierra Studios. "We've put a lot of resources behind Homeworld and it's gratifying to see it go to market with such a strong consumer demand."
Founded in May of 1997, Relic Entertainment is involved in developing electronic entertainment. Relic worked with Sierra Studios on the production of Homeworld, a real-time strategy game for Windows 95/98 PC CD ROM. More information on Relic can be found at www.relic.com.
