SWAT 3: Elite Edition

SWAT 3: Elite Edition … join the ranks of LAPD's finest and fight the global forces trying to thwart the signing of the United Nations Nuclear Abolishment Treaty and the celebration of Global Peace Day 2005.

Emphasizing SWAT tactics with state-of-the-art weapons, SWAT 3: Elite Edition is a first-person tactical action game that can be played in mission, career or multiplayer mode.

In mission mode, each of the 21 missions (which include five new missions) is a stand-alone experience where you, as the element leader of a five-man entry team, lead the fight against domestic terrorism. Mission results are not tallied and do not affect your overall score. Mission mode lets you hone your leadership and tactical skills with little risk to your status as a SWAT team leader — beyond that of an untimely demise, of course.

In career mode, your up-front decisions have long-lasting effects. During a career, your leadership score and the medals you're awarded, not to mention your squad, follow you from mission to mission. As the element leader, you make the decisions that will determine whether you enjoy a short-lived or long-lasting command … the sequence of missions, and the progression of the story, builds on outcomes from previous missions.

Multiplayer mode allows you to play all 21 missions online, over a LAN (local area network) or on the Internet.

Elite Edition offers two types of multiplayer games: Cooperative and Deathmatch. In Cooperative games, each player can assume the role of element leader or any one of the four-team assaulter positions. One of the great features of Elite Edition is that it allows you to choose AI officers for any of the assaulters .

Cooperative games are similar to single-player career games in that you choose entry points and a tactical mode of entry for each mission, and your objectives range from hostage rescue to VIP protection to warrant service. In Cooperative play, your individual bravery and the actions of your teammates against AI adversaries save lives and earn you medals.

In Deathmatch games, up to five players can battle individually in free-for-alls, or create teams by joining either the good guys or the bad guys. Deathmatch game types include last-man-standing and most-neutralized. Both Deathmatch game types can be augmented with a time limit and life-support features.

Elite Edition's multiplayer mode is extremely MOD friendly. Using the SWAT 3 tools, you can modify existing levels or create new ones. New character skins and weapons are easy to create. And once you complete a MOD, swat.sierra.com will host it, making it available to players around the world. swat.sierra.com even provides an online FAQ to guide you through MOD-building.

If you purchased the original version of SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle, you can upgrade to all of Elite Edition's expanded features via a free download that includes the new missions and development tools.

The SWAT 3 Development Team is proud to have improved the game with:

  • Infinite Re-playability: Robust AI includes 150 characters, from hostages and criminals to team members. AI characters have individual temperaments and will react to you differently each time you play based on their current situation and position.
  • True-to-Life Ballistics: Accurate and true ballistics allow you to shoot, and be shot, through walls (depending on the material) as well as neutralize more than one person with a single bullet.
  • Deathmatch+: AI characters can pick up loose weapons, and will react differently depending on whether you are a SWAT officer, terrorist or civilian.
  • World and Scenario Editor: Create your own signature missions or actually recreate real-world situations.
  • Bullet-less Option: Paintball mode offers a non-violent yet addictive option for all gamers.
SWAT 3's Development Team looks forward to playing you online; we also look forward to seeing all the great MODs you create. From all of us on the SWAT 3 Development Team, here's hoping you enjoy playing Elite Edition as much as we do. See you online!
