Rave in The Den
01/10/01
No, not an ecstasy-fueled dance marathon in the den at your parent's house,
it's another rave review (4.5/5) for Cataclysm at the Game Den.
You can read the whole review
or the bottom line: "
I was blown away by HC and highly recommend it to anyone interested in real time
strategy games. Simple controls, plentiful options, rich background
information and excellent 3D graphics all combine for some exceptional
gaming time."
Gamespot UK Nominates Cataclysm for Strategy Game of the Year
01/02/01
The editors at Gamespot UK placed Cataclysm amongst 2000's best strategy
games for the PC. "Cataclysm followed the rules for all the best sequels, by
adding to and enhancing the original gameplay experience without destroying
the game mechanic," writes Gamespot UK. "It offered the same beautiful
graphics, outstanding 3D space engine and involving gameplay as the
original, but added in new ships, new weapons, a new first-person mode and a
huge variety of multiplayer options."
Sharky Extreme Places Cataclysm in Top 10
01/02/01
Pete Closs places Homeworld: Cataclysm amongst the top 10 games released in
2000 in Sharky's annual roundup. "The basic foundation and overall game
balance and execution are so solid that other developers should be ringing
up Barking Dog to find out how sequels are supposed to be designed," says
Sharky. "Don't miss this one."

named Cataclysm among their strategy-game gift picks for this season. Rumor has it that even the

Cataclysm gets a positive entry in the Chronicle
12/8/00
Homeworld opened up a new frontier for GamingChronicle.com reviewer Stephen Murgen, competing
strongly with his first gaming love, flight sims, for his affection. Cataclysm took things
one step further, as he attests in the conclusion to
his review:
Homeworld was widely acclaimed as a great game, but Barking Dog have improved on a winning formula.
My advice to you is to check out the demo, and if you like what you see, Buy it! I will
be playing this game for a long time to come.
Tune in to the SCI-FI Channel's Cataclysm review
12/8/00
Over at the SCI-FI Channel's official Website, SCIFI.COM, they've been playing
space strategy games, and Cataclysm makes their A-list. Here's how reviewer Eric Baker
ended his review:
Considering it is a sequel, I am amazed at how much fun Homeworld: Cataclysm is to play. During
later scenarios, with the use of capital ships, the battles become truly cinematic.

Cataclysm enters finals for Codie Award
11/28/00
The engagement is brutal. Out of 750 combatants, only four or five emerge for the final showdown.
Are we talking about an all-out fleet battle against the Beast? Nope, the Codie Awards. And
Cataclysm has survived the vicious cuts to go into final-round judging for 2000's Best Strategy &
Simulation Game! Winners will be announced in San Diego March 12, 2001, during the Annual
Conference of the Software and Information Industry Association.

Alternate universes intersect at the new Homeworld Mod section
11/15/00
Though Homeworld has no mod support, many very talented mod experts have been inspired to
change its game play and to refit it with other popular science fiction universes, including
Freespace, Wing Commander, Star Trek and Babylon 5. We've opened a
new section of the site to
promote the very best Homeworld mods out there. Cross over into an all new universe of three-dimensional

The Borg have assimilated the Beast!
11/10/00
The Star Trek: Homeworld team of cyber-organic game hybridizers has embarked on a
mod project
to turn the Beast into the Borg and Kiith Somtaaw into a resistance force. On one side,
you'll have the Borg Cube, Tactical Cube, Sphere Probe and Diamond; and on the Somtaaw, Kushan and Turanic teams, a motley collection of ships
that includes the Dominion Super Battleship captured during the Dominion War and an assortment
of Federation, Klingon, Romulan and Cardassian craft, in addition to vessels from
Star Wars and Babylon 5. How's that for space opera?

We swam with the sharks
and won!
11/1/00
The players at SharkyGames gave Homeworld: Cataclysm
a rave review (like we're surprised?). Here's a bite of Brett Todd's
review:
"
believe me, when you play games for a living, you don't often cry 'More!'
when you finish one. The basic foundation and overall game balance and execution are so solid that
other developers should be ringing up Barking Dog to find out how sequels are supposed to be designed.
Don't miss this one."
Even better, Cataclysm was the winner of Sharky's
RTS Shootout 2000! Games editor Peter Closs writes: "Cataclysm was a cross between a sequel and an add-on,
and it succeeded as both. It added more to the original game than your average add-on, while being long and polished
enough to qualify as a stand alone product, and a top quality one at that."

gameplay."
Ready, aim, Firing Squad: Editor's Choice
10/27/00
Homeworld: Cataclysm is the target of another
fine review. The gang at Firing Squad found the
game so on target, they gave it their Editor's Choice Award. "The gameplay of the Homeworld series is
now cemented as revolutionary. Games in the future will either draw upon this series as influence, or out
and out steal its ideas. Homeworld and its sequel, Cataclysm, have done more for RTS than all others
save perhaps Herzog Zwei and the PC Classic Dune 2000. The multiplayer of Cataclysm is unrivaled, offering
up even more options than the original."
Five stars and Editor's Choice the Beast assimilates CGW!
10/20/00
Computer Gaming World has just published a five-star review stamped with the only Editor's
Choice Award logo in their entire current issue. Here's the summary:
The designers at Relic did well in entrusting their code to Barking Dog Studios, who have produced a
game that improves upon almost every aspect of the original.... Call it what you will: sequel, add-on,
new episode. Cataclysm is Homeworld and then some.

Game Watchdog alerts gamers to a new classic
9/12/00
The Game Watchdog review site howls its approval in a recent review,
giving Cataclysm an A+ (Classic) overall rating. Some highlights:
Cataclysm melds all the best traits of Homeworld, then adds new traits that refine the game into a
new classic. Sierra truly has had a banner year for RTS games and Cataclysm stands to be the pinnacle. . . .
This game surpasses all expectations and preconceptions I held for it. It is truly one of the best, most
enjoyable RTS games I have ever played. The added features, expansion upon the original tale, the new
fleet and terrifying new opponent all make for an incredible game. If I were to ever recommend a single RTS game
that everyone should play, this is it.
